We had our Wood Connection craft nights this week and we made this super cute block and carrots–Hippity Hoppity Easter’s on its way!! Less than two weeks! It sure comes up fast when it falls in March. Can we start a committee or something to make Easter the 3rd Sunday in April every year?! Haha!
We had so much fun at our two classes! Just in case you haven’t heard-we teach 2 craft classes every month for the Wood Connection (one class in Murray, UT and the other in American Fork, UT). If you aren’t local or can’t make it on the nights of our classes, we usually offer a kit you can purchase and find the instructions here on our site. You can also find most of the supplies at the Wood Connection store and at thewoodconnection.com.
Here’s what you need for this project:
- 8 x 10 wood block
- Carrot trio
- Small can of stain
- Wood glue
- Paint (orange color is called OJ, green color is called Leaf Green)
- Foam brushes
- Jute or twine
- 8 x 10 size Easter printable
The very first step with any wood craft project is to wipe down each piece to remove any sawdust. Once the pieces are dust free, paint a coat of stain on all sides of the carrots-don’t worry about getting stain down in between the leaves at the top. Staining them before painting is what will give them that dirty, fresh-out-of-the-ground look. Also stain the sides, back and just a little on the front of the wood block.
Now let the stain dry completely! If the stain on the block is not totally dry, it will seep through the paper just a bit around all the edges. We learned this the hard way….So be patient and let it dry all the way.
Then place the print on the block and press it down, smoothing it out from the center to the outsides.
Set the carrots on top of the block and just like that–you’ve got some cute Easter decor!
Pretty easy right? We have new crafters come to every class we do and everyone leaves with a perfect project! We hope everyone leaves our site feeling like they can be crafty too! We are certain anyone can be crafty with just a little nudge in the right direction. 😉
Have a fabulous day and a fabulous weekend!
