Okay, let’s get to the tutorial!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- HOP Letter Set (from the Wood Connection)
- White paint
- Foam brush
- Patterned paper
- Glitter paper (from Hobby Lobby)
- Wood glue
- Matching ribbon (from Paper Mart)
- Glue gun
- Scissors, pencil, sanding block
- Small piece of cardboard
- White yarn (4 yards)
Clear a little space for crafting, grab your supplies, and let’s get this thing done!Start by tracing the letters onto the paper. On a side note, glitter paper is probably in the top 10 of our favorite craft “cheats”. We love the look of glitter, but hate using glitter. Who wants to have glitter in their eyelashes for the next 4 weeks? Ha ha! Not us, glitter paper is the perfect solution. You get the look of glitter without the everlasting effects of using glitter. We got this glitter paper at Hobby Lobby. The best way to avoid cutting your paper backwards is to lay it on top of your letter the correct way, then just flip the letter and the paper over to trace.Cut out each letter and set the paper aside. Now let’s paint! You will paint everything white. Start by painting the sides – that way you can rotate the letter around as you paint, then lay it flat to paint the back. You only need to paint a little around the edges on the front of each letter since it will be covered with paper.Once the paint is dry, use wood glue to attach the paper. (We only use the wood glue from the Wood Connection, it’s the best!) Paint the glue onto the wood, then place your paper. Smooth it out and set the letters face down while the glue dries.Sand the edges of the paper for a seamless look. We don’t recommend sanding the glitter paper, we learned the hard way that it doesn’t sand well.Next, we need to make the bunny foo-foo tail. Use a small piece of cardboard (like a cereal box) to make a template that is 2 in. by 3 in. Then cut 4 yards of white yarn. Start by wrapping the yarn around the short side of template.Leave about 3-4 inches at the end to cut. We’ll use this piece to tie the pom pom.Slide the wrapped yarn off the template and tie your yarn piece around the center of the wrapped yarn.Tie a double knot as tight as you can.Now cut all the loops, fluff and trim.Press the yarn on one side making a somewhat flat surface for gluing.Use a little hot glue to attach the pom pom to the glitter bunny. Finally, tie a piece of ribbon around the letter ‘h’. We found this pink glittery ribbon from Paper Mart. We were pretty excited to find a perfect match to the glitter paper. (On another side note, Paper Mart is a super fun site to browse around for all kinds of paper goods.)
