8 Fun Winter songs and rhymes

December 17, 2013 By: Melanie

It is Winter.  We’ve got snow and freezing cold temperatures.  This year I have sworn I would not be such a Scrooge about the whole freezing cold temperatures thing.  (See #1 “10 things you didn’t know about Melanie”) If I can’t change winter, I should try to embrace it…..a little.  Some festive songs and rhymes might help me out.(?)  I tracked down a few favorites to sing with my girls that I hope you’ll like too!
Make sure you get to the last one, it’s a good one for a little older kids too. : )

Little bunny
A cute little snowman. (hands above head to make a snowman)
Had a carrot nose.  (point to nose)
Along came a bunny (hop like a bunny)
And what do you suppose? (shrug shoulders, hold out hands to question)
That hungry little bunny (rub stomach)
Looking for his lunch (hold hand above eyes, searching)
Ate that snowman’s carrot nose (pretend to eat)
Nibble, nibble, crunch!
I’m a Great Big Snowman
tune: “I’m a Little Teapot”
I’m a great big snowman,
Tall and fat.
Here is my tummy,
Here is my hat.
Raisins for my eyes,
And a carrot nose,
I’m all snow from head to toe!
Frost
tune: “The Farmer in the Dell”
The frost is in the air
The frost is in the air
It’s wintertime! It’s wintertime!
The frost is in the air!
The frost is in the trees
The frost is in the trees
It’s wintertime! It’s wintertime!
The frost is in the trees!
The frost is on the ground
The frost is on the ground
It’s wintertime! It’s wintertime!
The frost is on the ground!
Here’s a Hill
Here’s a hill
And here’s a hill
All covered with snow
I’ll jump on my sled
And ZOOM!  Down I’ll go!
Five Little Snowmen
by Robin Suitt
5 little snowmen all made of snow
5 little snowmen standing in a row.
Out came the sun and stayed all day
And one little snowman melted away.
4 little snowmen all made of snow
4 little snowmen standing in a row.
Out came the sun and stayed all day
And one little snowman melted away.
3 little snowmen all made of snow
3 little snowmen standing in a row.
Out came the sun and stayed all day
And one little snowman melted away.
2 little snowmen all made of snow
2 little snowmen standing in a row.
Out came the sun and stayed all day
And one little snowman melted away.
1 little snowmen all made of snow
1 little snowmen standing in a row.
Out came the sun and stayed all day
And the last little snowman melted away.
Here is the Chimney
Here is the chimney (make a fist, enclose thumb.)
Here is the top (palm of other hand on top of fist.)
Open the lid (lift hand on top open.)
Out Santa will pop! (pop up thumb.)
Santa’s on his way
tune:  The Farmer in the Dell
Oh Santa’s on his way.
Oh Santa’s on his way.
He’s bringing toys
For girls and boys.
In his Christmas sleigh!
Snowball
by Shel Silverstein
I made myself a snow ball as perfect as could be.
I thought I’d keep it as a pet and let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas and a pillow for it’s head.
Then, last night it ran away,
But first — it wet the bed.

Happy Winter!  (I’m trying : )

I found your blog yesterday, bookmarked it, and sat down this morning with a cup of coffee and started from the beginning. You gals are great! I saved a lot of your stuff to try out throughout the year (different holidays). Some of the crafts I have seen similar ideas on other sites, however your instructions give me confidence I can ACTUALLY do them. I’m a wannabe crafter…just got my first glue gun a week ago lol. Isn’t that sad? lol!!
