Pallet furniture is everywhere! We love it as much as the next, but unfortunately, we learned that a lot of the real life pallets are in no condition to be made into functional furniture.
So we built a pallet bed….without any pallets.
Let’s start by introducing you to the most amazing old door EVER! My heart skips a beat when I look at this beauty. We found it at a little antique shop with it’s gorgeous door knob and all!
It’s probably an exact replica of the door to heaven.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
Aaaaand, wipe your drool.
The door knob! It’s so terribly perfect.
Wipe your drool again, we don’t judge. : )
Moving past the old door envy, let’s talk pallets.
We started with 2 pallets we thought would work great.
But…there are some problems with using real pallets for actual furniture: most pallets are old, not well built, and almost never square; meaning the corners are not all 90 degree angles. In this case, our pallets were also not the same size and not quite the right size. To make them stable, square and the right size was more work than it was worth.
So, on to Plan B.
Steffany’s husband helped us build a pallet that was just the right size.
(By ‘helped’ of course I mean he did it all. 🙂
He used 2×4’s, 2×6’s, and some 2×8’s.
He attached casters to the bottom for a little extra height, plus they look good.
By building it ourselves, we could make it the perfect size. It is also very sturdy and has the same look as actual pallets, minus some aging. The heavenly door is just propped up against the wall. This bed is in Steffany’s spare bedroom and used just for hanging out and reading. If this were going to be used as a bed every night, the door would definitely need to be secured to the wall.
We stacked 2 foam camping pads and set them on the “pallet” bed.
Steff found some cute bedding and completed the look with a couple throw pillows.
So cute right? We love this project! Charlie loves it too. 🙂
Next week we’ll show the rest of the room! The before and after pictures are amazing! Who doesn’t love a good before and after?
