Dining Table & Chairs Re-finish {Transformation Tuesday}

April 15, 2014 By: Melanie

We’re starting something new around here!  Transformation Tuesday!  We seem to be backed up with projects to share. We have furniture transformations going on like crazy – so every Tuesday we’ll be posting one here!  We might be obsessed just a little with re-finishing furniture and with the weather finally heating up a bit, there will be no stopping us! 🙂

(We get ahead of ourselves a little and sometimes forget we have a craft blog by not taking good BEFORE pictures or detailed step by step pictures.  So if you have any questions, please just ask!)

This dining table and chairs are for our sister in law, Jory.

Jory and Steffany hit the DI (local thrift store) and scored the table for $25 and all six chairs for $10 a piece!

Since the table is solid wood, Steff could sand it down to stain it.

Dining table makeover (10)We used 3 coats of stain, and wiped the table down with some very fine steel wool between each coat.  The steel wool re -smooths the surface for the next coat of stain.

We used a spray sealer over the table to protect it and make it more durable and easy to clean.

For the chairs, we went with spray paint.  We sprayed them with a sealer as well.

Since these chairs came with an upholstered seat that was in good condition, we decided to keep them as is.  We just removed the seat while we spray painted the rest of the chair white.

We love, love how this turned out!  The pops of orange and the contrast with the white and dark stain-so gorgeous!  (See the coffee table we re-finished with white paint and stain HERE. It’s gorgeous too!)  This week my piano is in our plans.  Sounds a little scary, but it’s going to be awesome!
