Fun with Potted Plants -Sharpies, Paint, Clothespins, Tin Cans…..

July 17, 2014 By: Melanie

Welcome Fresh Living viewers!  We are thrilled to have you!  We always love having the opportunity to be on Fresh Living and this time was no different.  We took on the challenge of finding fun ways to spruce up potted plants.  Summer is in full swing,  and there are lots of summer blooming flowers.  Plus, it’s so great to bring some green in the house.  We’ve got some quick, easy, and inexpensive potted plant ideas!potted plant ideas

A couple months ago we shared these painted terra cotta pots.  They are so cute and easy, we’re bringing them back! Painted Terra Cotta Pots (1)

They are regular, inexpensive terra cotta pots painted white.Painted Terra Cotta Pots (4)

Then I just busted out a bronze colored Sharpie and hand drew a herringbone pattern and a simple geometric pattern (aka: triangles) on the pots.  And believe me, I am no artist!  These are easier than drawing a stick figure family :).Painted Terra Cotta Pots (2)

Ta-da!  Most definitely not perfect, but pretty all the same!   (See the original post HERE.) Painted Terra Cotta Pots (3)

Next, are a couple clay pots from IKEA.  I used a paint marker to do a herringbone pattern on this one as well.  So simple and such a difference!  creative plant pots-fresh living (11)

This next beauty is also a clay pot from IKEA and another Sharpie!  I practiced my 3rd grade cursive on a sheet of paper and just went for it!  Custom and lovely!creative plant pots-fresh living (1)

These next pots use two types of clothespins and tin cans from the pantry.

This is just a small tuna can (emptied and cleaned,) then simply clip the clothes pins to the can all the way around.  We like the natural look of the wood;  it would be darling painted as well!creative plant pots-fresh living (8)

This cute little planter is the same technique as the last, but using doll clothes pins instead.  creative plant pots-fresh living (7)

We used a little larger can for this one, and they just slip over the can.  If  you would like to paint it, we found it easiest to first spray paint the can, then add the clothes pins and spray paint them.creative plant pots-fresh living (6) creative plant pots-fresh living (5)

Last, we put together these simple succulent bowls for my entry table. (Check out my whole entry and planked wall tutorial HERE.)  These are glass bowls from the Dollar Store with pebbles from the Dollar Store.  Start by pouring a layer of pebbles in the bottom of the bowl, then potting soil and add the succulent!  (The pebbles allow for draining.)

What do you think?  Ready to rummage up those Sharpies and boring pots?  YES!
