DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial

September 10, 2014 By: Melanie

DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (3)Yesterday we celebrated our little Belle’s birthday!  She is my baby-and my baby is now 4.  Crazy!  One of my favorite birthday traditions is displaying pictures of the birthday child from every previous birthday.  We love to see how much they’ve grown and remember how they looked all through the years.  Today I’m sharing the DIY Birthday crown I use to easily know how old they were in every picture.

Step one, get yourself a Whopper Jr.!  While your at Burger King, grab one of their crowns.   DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (2)

Lay the BK crown on a poster board and trace it.  I wanted a bigger front, so I altered it a bit.  I used the bottom of a paint bottle to trace perfect half circles.  DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (1)

Next, cut out the crown.  This was my least favorite part,  I literally had to step away and come back later to finish cutting-ha ha! A little bit tedious, but once it’s cut trace it with a pretty marker.  I chose gold, very appropriate. 🙂DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (9)

Last step, take it to an office store and get it laminated, then cut around it again.  This time cutting can be sloppier so it’s not nearly as tedious.  Laminating the crown serves 2 purposes.  1:  It will obviously last longer, I use it for all my girls birthdays for at least a few years before it needs to be replaced.  And 2:  The girls can decorate their crown with dry erase crayons and it just wipes off.  So Fun!!DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (8) DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (6)

Belle didn’t care to decorate hers much.  I let them do their crown however they want, as long as we can easily read the number for their age.  I love seeing my sweet kiddies grow up!  DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (4)

One last set of pics.  This girl is so funny!  We always say she’s our boy we never had.  She loves boy toys.  She got a robotic dinosaur, an RC type truck, a toy bow and arrow, and a car track from family for her birthday presents-and she couldn’t be happier.  Love it!DIY Birthday Crown Tutorial (5)

I love that it is laminated and can be used over and over! Very fun! Thanks for linking up to the Creative Exchange.
