Santa Stop Here + Free Printable

November 10, 2014 By: Melanie

*UPDATE!*  The winner of the $25 gift card to The Wood Connection is comment #25 Christina S!  Congratulations Christina!  We sent you an email. 🙂

Can you believe it’s time to start getting our Christmas craft on?!  While we are complete fans of Thanksgiving, it’s fun to get some Christmas projects started so we can enjoy them for the whole month of December!  So today we’re excited to share this adorable “Santa STOP Here” display with a FREE Printable!  We are sharing this on The Wood Connection today as well.  They are the best!  They have a few Utah locations now; AND they do ship quite a few items if you’re not local. 🙂  Seriously, cutest stuff ever.  Let’s get to our Santa Display!

Here’s what you need: (All from the Wood Connection)

  • Santa boots and hat
  • Large wood post
  • Frame overlay
  • Red, white, and black paint
  • Paper for hat and boots
  • True Snow
  • Ribbon & bells
  • Wood glue
  • Santa Stop Here sign (FREE PRINTABLE!)

First step is to lightly sand and wipe down the boots and hat.  Then Paint the edges and backs.Santa Stop Here display wood connection (2)

Now we were a little too excited to get the snow on the hat so we maybe did this in the wrong order.

The ACTUAL best way to do this is:

  1. Paint the sides and back of the pieces (we got that right.)
  2. Trace the pieces onto paper, cut out and use wood glue to attach the paper.  Check out THIS and THIS tutorial for applying scrapbook paper to wood.
  3. Sand the edges a bit for a smooth and finished look.

Okay, now lets pretend we did all those steps in the right order and we’re ready to use the True Snow.  This stuff is so super cool and so easy to use-you can’t mess it up!   It’s so perfect for that Santa hat fluff.  Just use a big-ish paint brush and slop the True Snow on, twisting and lifting rather than brushing.  It takes about 24 hours to fully dry, so set them aside and we’ll start on the frame and post.Santa Stop Here display wood connection (1)

Paint the frame overlay.  Done.Santa Stop Here display wood connection (11)

Before painting the post, use a screwdriver to remove the hook.  Then just paint or stain however you like.  We painted ours white.

Once everything is dry, re-attach the hook, and use wood glue to attach the fluffy white hat brim.

We just taped the printable onto the back of the frame overlay and used ribbon to hang it from the hook.

Seriously, isn’t this perfect to sit by the tree?  Or next to a fireplace?  Or even on a covered front porch? It would be perfect to put Santa’s cookies on too on Christmas Eve!  We love it.:)

Remember how we mentioned The Wood Connection is the best?  Well, they have given us a $25 gift card for one of our lucky readers!  It’s so easy to enter-just be an FML email subscriber and leave a comment on this post.  We’ll announce the winner on Thursday!  Good luck!
