Happy Monday everyone! We are so excited to be over at The Wood Connection today sharing this project there too! Nothing beats the winter blues like a stop into their store – a craft fix is always a good thing!
Today we’re sharing a project that is quick, and super practical too – an inexpensive frame update! If you’re anything like us, you are bound to have a frame or two kicking around the house that could use a little TLC. So we’re excited to show you how to get a totally new look out of that old frame AND for less than $5! (If you don’t already have an old frame, a thrift store or even the Dollar Store are great options to pick up a cheap one.)
All you need is:
- A frame overlay from The Wood Connection
- Hot glue gun
- Paint
- Foam brush
- Paint tape
And of course,
- A picture frame
First, paint the frame overlays. We painted ours Light Ivory.
Then, use painters tape to make stripes. Obviously you could paint them however you choose. 🙂
Paint the stripes. (The colors we used for the stripes are Quaker Grey and Sea Foam-also from The Wood Connection.)
Once the paint is dry, use a nail file to sand the edges a bit.
Last, take the backing and glass out the frame and hot glue the overlay right onto the frame. A frame that is mostly flat on the front will work the best.
That’s it! Put the glass, a picture and the backing back into the frame and it’s done! A whole new look for a boring old frame. Way cute, right?!
The backside looks like this:
And a couple cute close ups 🙂
They are perfect for finally framing those school pictures! 🙂
Can’t wait to get these on the wall! We are pretty much in love with them – the kids and the frames! 😉 Be sure to hop over to The Wood Connection and check out all the other amazing projects!
We are also so excited to have a $25 gift certificate to the beloved Wood Connection to give away! To enter, all you need to do is follow us on Instagram and tag a friend!

Thank you so much Jennifer!
This is a brilliant idea! The updated frames look so good!
I love this idea. Attractive frames can be so expensive so this is a great alternate to buying them. This is definitely something I need to bookmark! It’ll work great for shadow boxes too!
What a great idea! I will be doing this project for sure!
