We’re so excited to share these DIY Mickey or Minnie Mouse ears today! These are perfect to make before your Disney trip! We were fortunate enough to go back in September! Mine and Steffany’s husbands whole family goes every year and we love to go when we are able……which mostly means when we have enough life savings to cash out so we can afford it! (Check out our Disney savings jar HERE.) There’s really no way around it, Disneyland is an expensive family vacation! So, so fun – – YES! But still……. very expensive. One of the ways we try to save a little money is by NOT buying some things in the park – like the ever popular Mickey ears.
These are super easy to make ahead of time and are just as cute as the ones in the park.
Here’s what you need to make your own DIY Mickey or Minnie Mouse ears:
- Black headband
- Black felt
- Foam sheet (like THESE)
- Glue gun
We found this perfect template over at www.TheSuburbanMom.com, which makes these cute ears so easy! Print and cut out the template, then trace it onto black felt. We used some stiff black felt for extra stability.
Next cut some circles out of the foam sheet that will fit inside the circle part of the ear. Hot glue the foam circle onto one side of the felt Mouse ear. These foam circles make the ears stand up.
Simply hot glue the felt Mouse ear over a black headband. (We picked up a pack of colored headbands and just wrapped them with black ribbon.)
If you just need Mickey ears, you are done! If you would like Minnie ears, lets talk about the interchangeable NO SEW bows we made. 🙂
Here’s what you’ll need to make the bow:
- Fabric
- Ribbon
- Pinking shears
- Glue gun
- Alligator hair clip (like THESE)
First, cut a piece of fabric to about 3 inches by 6 inches.
Trim around the entire piece with pinking shears.
Now fold the fabric over and hot glue the ends together.
Pinch in the center making a bow. Add a little hot glue in the folds of the fabric.
Hot glue a piece of coordinating ribbon around the center for a finished look. Last, hot glue an alligator clip to the back of the bow; or if you don’t want the bow to be interchangeable, simply hot glue it right to the Mouse ears.
Clip the bow to one side of the ears………Minnie Mouse ears!!
We made a red bow and a pink bow and switched them out during our trip. The pink bow is ribbon instead of fabric. Just FYI. 🙂
Just a couple more pictures of our Minnie Mouse ears in action!
So easy and cute! DIY Mickey or Minnie Mouse ears are the way to go if you’re heading to Disneyland!

Hi Laura! Thank you for your comment! I made the red Mickey ear shirts using fabric and heat bond. The gold Mickey head shirts are fabric paint using the freezer paper technique (http://finditmakeitloveit.com/2015/04/diy-freezer-paper-stencil.html). The Mickey shape is pretty simple to trace and cut for both technique’s, I just found the basic shape online and printed it. I hope that helps! 🙂
Thank you for this tutorial and the printout attachment. I can’t wait to try to make these! I love your daughters shirts as well and was wondering how you did the Mickey Cut out. Did you sew them on, fabric glue?
