Hi! We sure hope you all had a great weekend and a fabulous Mother’s Day! Today we are so happy to be over at The Wood Connection to share our latest DIY project- this darling DIY clock made out of a Wood Connection picture frame! A DIY clock means it can be any color with any pattern to match any room! That’s one of the best reasons to be a crafter right? We can get exactly what we want!
Here’s what you need to make a clock of your own: (most supplies from The Wood Connection)
- Large round picture frame
- Paint
- 12 x 12 scrapbook paper
- Clock movement kit (from any craft store for under $10)
- Number stickers
First, take the glass out of the frame. Set aside the cardboard backing.
Paint the frame whatever color you want. We painted ours white.
Now add any kind of pattern you’d like. Or none at all! Whatever YOU want. 🙂 We added some herringbone type arrows to match the scrapbook paper we chose for the center.
After the paint is completely dry, add the clock numbers. We used address stickers from the Home Depot. Easy and inexpensive!
Now grab the cardboard backing that came with the frame and find the center. (Make an X going corner to corner to find the center.) Use a pen to push a hole through the very center. This is what you’ll mount the clock mechanism to. Since the clock mechanism is pretty light, the cardboard backing is sturdy enough to hold it.
Do the same with the scrapbook paper, then push the clock mechanism through the cardboard and the paper. Use an Exact O knife to cut the paper hole to fit perfectly around the clock piece and some double sided tape to attach the paper to the cardboard.
Now secure the cardboard back in the frame opening.
Follow the instructions that come with the clock movement kit to assemble the clock hands and get it working.
We are so thrilled with how it turned out!
Here’s a close up of the paper we used in the center. 🙂

Yes Kaylee, it hangs just fine on the wall. The nail just needs to be a little longer.
I love it! Are you able to hang the clock on the wall with the mechanism on the back?

Your clock is very pretty! My daughter made us a nice home-made clock as an anniversary present and I really treasure it!
