Easter block and carrots (6)Hippity Hoppity Easter’s on its way!

Hello friends!  As you know, this year Easter is early. Man it comes up fast when it falls in March.  Can we start a committee or something to make Easter the 3rd Sunday in April every year?!  Haha!

This month our Wood Connection craft is this adorable sign- Hippity Hoppity Easter’s on its way.  We always have so much fun in our classes!  Just in case you haven’t heard-we teach classes every month for the Wood Connection. If you aren’t local or can’t make it on the nights of our classes, we offer the kit you can purchase and find the instructions here on our site.

Let’s get to this craft tutorial!

What you need for this project:

  • 8 x 10 wood block
  • Carrot trio
  • Small can of stain
  • Wood glue
  • Orange paint
  • Green paint
  • Foam brushes
  • Jute
  • 8 x 10 size Easter printable

Great news!  We have this Easter printable available to download and print in our shop!  Of course you can always print it out and stick it in a cute frame too.

Easter block and carrots (7) How to make it:

Step 1-Stain:

Start by painting a coat of stain on the carrots.  Staining them before painting is what will give them that dirty, fresh-out-of-the-ground look.  Also stain the sides, back and just a little on the front of the wood block.

Now let the stain dry COMPLETELY!  Easter block and carrots (1)

Step 2-Paint:

Next, do a light coat of orange on all the carrots so the stain peeks through still.Easter block and carrots (11) Paint the leaf tops green and use a small brush to get down in between all the leaves.Easter block and carrots (10)

After the paint is dry, use a sanding block on all the edges.  This is optional, but gives them a nice rustic look.Easter block and carrots (9)

Stack the carrots and tie them together with some jute!  So stinkin’ cute!

Step 3-Printable:

Now to attach the printable to the block.  Put some wood glue on the block.Easter block and carrots (12)

Then spread the glue with a foam brush, making sure to get glue all the way to the edges.  Spread the glue quickly, it dries pretty fast.  Easter block and carrots (13)

Place the print on the block and press it down, smoothing it out from the center to the outsides using a vinyl squeegee or credit card.

Last, set the carrots on top of the block and just like that–you’ve got some cute Easter decor!

It was SOOO Fun to make it.
I was a NEWBIE and my project turned out great
I did have a little stain run through my white paper.. but I had the confidence to fix it by myself after going to this class!!!
I can’t wait to see what next months class brings.
