Lemonade Block Sign

July 25, 2016 By: Melanie

Lemonade Block Sign (5) Hi friends!  Steff and I are excited about this cute summer project.  With the hot summer temperatures we’re having, there’s nothing as refreshing as some cold lemonade! This simple craft is perfectly refreshing too!  We got all the supplies from The Wood Connection.

Here’s what you need:

  •  4 x 6 wood block with hole
  • Oval base
  • 3 inch candlestick
  • Small finial
  • Small lemon slice
  • Paint (White, Crocus Yellow)
  • Yellow polka dot paper, striped paper
  • Wood glue

And of course the Lemonade Printable you can find at the end of the post. 🙂

Lemonade Block Sign (2) Let’s get going with the tutorial!

Start by painting the block, oval base, candlestick, and finial white.  Two coats is perfect.Lemonade Block Sign (3)

While the white paint is drying, trace the lemon slice and the large seeds onto the paper and cut out.Lemonade Block Sign (9)Next, paint the lemon slice, seeds, and rind (which didn’t make it into the picture below) yellow.  Since the large seeds will be covered with paper, you only need to paint the edges.  The lemon slice will also be covered with paper so you don’t really need to paint the front of it either (unlike the picture.) Be sure to paint the front of the small seeds yellow too.  This picture is basically one of those “Do what we say, not what we do”  things- haha!  Just get all the lemon pieces painted yellow.  😉Lemonade Block Sign (4)Now to get the rind and the small seeds a lighter shade, use the brush with white paint and brush lightly over the yellow paint.  It will lighten them up just right.  If you get too much white paint on it, sand it down until it is the color you want.Lemonade Block Sign (10)

Now for the printable.  Cut it to 4 x 6, then paint a light, even coat of wood glue onto the front of the block, making sure to get all the way to the edges.  Lay the printable on it and smooth it out.  (Be sure to glue it on right side up, with the hole in the block at the top.)

Next, assemble the lemon slice with seeds and rind.  First, glue the striped paper onto the slice and then glue the polka dot paper onto the large seeds.  Sand the edges.  Then glue the rind to the slice, glue on the large seeds, and last – glue the small seeds.

At this point you can sand the edges of everything to give it that weathered look.  Lightly sand the block with printable, the base, candlestick, finial,  and lemon slice.  Trust us- it will look cute!

Lemonade Block Sign (8) You’re done!  Yahoo!  It’s ready to display at your kids next lemonade stand, or at your family BBQ or baby shower alongside some lemonade.   Of course it’s adorable all on it’s own too.  Lemonade Block Sign (6)

We sure hope you have fun crafting up this cute sign with lemon slice- it’s a super simple project that packs a lot of punch!  It’s just perfect for these hot summer months!
