St. Patrick’s Day LUCKY Banner

February 8, 2017 By: Melanie

St. Patrick’s Day isn’t the biggest of holidays, but it can be fun to add a little green and gold to our homes to celebrate the “lucky” day!  We made this cute and simple St. Patrick’s day LUCKY banner that is just right!

This banner is also our February Make it Take it craft party project.  If you haven’t heard yet, Steff and I are doing at home craft parties!  We’ve had a blast so far crafting with lots of fun people!  We make it so easy to have a fun craft night with your friends and family.  Click HERE to get more info. on our Make it Take it craft parties as well as our Craft Party in a Box.

Okay, let’s get to the tutorial!  Here’s what you need to make a LUCKY banner just like ours:

  • Gold glitter paper
  • Green glitter paper
  • Green patterned card stock
  • Black patterned card stock
  • Double sided tape
  • 1 1/2 yards white grosgrain ribbon (3/8″)
  • Letter stickers or vinyl to spell LUCKY

Step one is to make a template for the pennants.  Cut a scrap piece of card stock paper to 4×6.

Fold one end in half lengthwise.

Cut from the outside corner up toward the fold.  This will give you the pennant shape.

Now gently fold over the top of the pennant in half lengthwise and punch a hole at the corner.

Now you have a template to make all your pennants the exact same!

Next, cut your banner card stock to 4×6.  You will need five pieces for the word LUCKY and two accent pieces.  Use the template to trace and cut each 4×6 paper into the pennant shape.
Next, use a Silhouette to cut out 2 shamrocks onto the green glitter paper.  If you don’t have access to a Silhouette, you could also find a pattern online and cut them out by hand.  Our shamrocks are about 3″ by 3″.  Use a 1 1/2″ paper punch for the gold glitter paper to cut out six gold coins. Attach the shamrocks to the end accent pennants using double sided tape.Place the letters for the word LUCKY on the paper.  We used my Silhouette Cameo for this step too, our letters are vinyl.Cut about 1 1/2 yards of white grosgrain ribbon, heat seal the ends to prevent fraying.Thread the pennants onto the ribbon.Last step is to add the gold coins.  Use a little dab of hot glue to attach each coin to the ribbon in between each pennant.  All done and ready hang!

Here’s a little different version.  Black pinstripe paper for the letters and some black and white striped paper as the accent pieces.  The options are basically endless for cute papers to use for a banner!
