DIY Birthday Calendar

June 1, 2017 By: Melanie

Hi friends!  How many times have you forgotten a birthday, or remembered with barely enough time in the day to send a late night text?  Anyone?  Everyone?  I think we can all use a little help when it comes to remembering family and friends birthdays.  We have come up with something that is super cute and also super functional.  Win-Win!   A cute DIY Birthday Calendar!

Isn’t it cute?  We made another version of a perpetual birthday calendar a few years ago, (check it out HERE)  but a project refresh is always a good idea!

Here’s what you need:

  • Wood block
  • 12 different patterned papers (cut to 6 x 6 inches)
  • black paint
  • hole punch
  • glue stick
  • 1.25 inch book rings
  • Month printables HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE (each one has 3 months on it)
  • Calendar printable HERE

How to make it:

First, you need a board that is 12 in. by 7 in.

Drill 3 holes at the top of the board.  Measure 3/4 in. down from the top for all 3 holes.  Then drill the first hole 2 3/4 inches in, then second hole 6 inches in, and the last hole 10 inches in.   Paint the board black.  Front, sides, and back.  Set aside to let dry.

Next, print the months the blank calendars onto white card stock.

Cut them out. Next, create a hole punch template using a separate piece of card stock so all your hole punches line up exactly.

Create a second template for the 6 x 6 papers.  These ones have two holes.  Place the template over the board to mark where these holes will be, we want them to match up to the holes in the wood. You need one patterned or colored paper for each month.

Once all the holes are punched, it’s time to glue the blank calendars onto the patterned paper.  (We chose card stock papers and colors that represent each month.  All of our paper is from The Wood Connection-all their paper is good quality card stock and comes in so many cute colors and patterns.)

Now it’s time to assemble!  Simply place the book rings through the holes in the board, and then add the months in order.

All done and ready to fill in with birthdays!  While we can’t guarantee you’ll never have any last minute happy birthday wishes, we think having each months birthdays fashionably displayed will definitely help!

If you love this project but want all the hard work done for you, we have great news!  We sell this as a kit! That means you get everything you need to make it just like ours.   It’s a perfect way to have a fun time creating without having to gather all the supplies and cut your own wood.  Click HERE to check it out! This birthday calendar has been a popular craft for our craft nights too!  Learn more about throwing your own craft party HERE.
