We’re so excited about this Interchangeable Plank Sign! It’s a two for one craft and a fun way to decorate post Christmas and through Valentine’s Day. This is a fun project that you’ll have finished in no time! Let’s get started!
What’s in your kit:
- 12 x 12 plank sign
- Two circle overlays
- 3D spacer block
- Paint: Rooster red, Seafoam, and White
- Foam brushes
- 6 self adhesive velcro circles (we used THESE)
- Snowflake vinyl
- LOVE vinyl
- Wood glue
Other supplies needed:
- Painters tape
- Sanding block (optional)
Step 1- Paint:
Tape around the inside of the plank sign (the pre-stained frame of the sign.)
Paint the inside of the sign white. We chose to do just one coat, we like the white washed look. Set aside to dry.
Now paint one circle overlay Seafoam, and one Rooster Red. Paint the edges first so you can rotate it around in your hands, then set it down to paint the front.
Step 2- Vinyl:
Once the paint on the circle overlays is dry, you can place the vinyl. Peel away the white backing, place the sticky side down on the circle overlay and press the vinyl using a credit card (or vinyl presser if you have one.) Then peel away the clear transfer tape leaving the white vinyl on the circle overlay.
Step 3- Glue and Velcro:
Now for the wood spacer. Use wood glue to attach the spacer in the center of the plank sign. Be sure to glue it VERTICALLY on the sign. If the spacer is horizontal the circle overlays tend to flop forward just a bit because they are held with velcro. Hopefully that makes sense. Just take our word for it if it doesn’t and glut the spacer vertical. 😉
Now attach the a hook or loop to the correct one on the spacer block, this will make the sticky side face up.Now press the circle overlay on the spacer block to attach the velcro circles to it. Doing it this way will ensure the velcro circles line up exactly.
